Listening/viewing US football from UK
« on: September 02, 2006, 09:01:10 PM »
DH wanted me to let people in the UK know that you can buy a weekly or yearly ESPN gameplan subscription for college football, to be able to watch it online. The weekly subscription is about $20, $129 for the year.

If you want to listen to online radio broadcasts (online) of NFL games, you can purchase the NFL fieldpass for $29 for the whole season, on the NFL.com website.

Oooh, this is *excellent* news.  (Although I don't know what I'm going to do if I can't hear Larry Munson call the game!  I might cry.)  I've already kidded Chris about sticking those little red window flags on his Nissan. ;)

And, they have REALLY improved the picture quality this year big time. Its awesome.

And Meg, NASN will probably be covering at least a few Georgia games this year (they had the game this past weekend), since they lost their ESPN/ABC contract and appear to have picked up Jefferson Pilot and CBS instead. . . .Since I'm an SC alum and my husband is a Texas alum, this doesn't help us. But, it sounds like it would make you happy!. . .I still don't think I would recommend them persay though, because they totally suck and appear to be getting worse.

I use it at work a lot, figured I'd pass it along.

Awesome post futurcode, thanks.

I wanted to add that Yahoo! is now offering streaming NFL games. $249 for the year or $24.99 for an individual week. You get all games from that week. more info here: http://sports.yahoo.com/nflgamepass [nofollow]

I've watched my school (USC as well!) at the Sports Cafe on Haymarket - the only problem being is that they will only stay open past 3AM if there are a bunch of people watching the game. I had to run all the way home to catch the 3rd and 4th quarters on Gameplan! If anyone would like to gang up and watch the late games there, I would love it.

My dad is listening to the Bears game right now live for free...I think our Chicago TV station is broadcasting it.

Wish I could, 23blast, but I live in Aberdeen.  ::) But Fight On anyway!   ;D Have you checked out the USC Alumni Association in London? They often go to the Sports Cafe or Bodeans.

I also just found out about this player: http://www.download.com/TVU-Player/3000-2194_4-10549204.html

If you download it, you an access ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN I and II, plus a handful of other networks. The quality is pretty good, and its all for free! The feeds are mostly from Southern California. Good stuff.

thanks  brimarie! i've downloaded it and i'm going to check it out. Odd that you should mention Bodean's, I live in Clapham, only about five minutes away! I knew that it was an expat hangout but never wanted to chance missing a game because I think they shut down at 1. I've got the ESPN Gameplan webcast which is actually pretty good - you should check it out. Fight On!

Yeah, I've got Gameplan too. But, it looks like they're blocking out games again this year! So, I have my other two contingency plans. Plus, my husband went to Texas ( >:() and so sometimes we have games on at the same time, so we have to have a few different options. Gameplan is usually my first choice, though.

I think now that they have those 24 hour drinking laws, they can stay opened. I know Bodeans did for the UCLA game last year because I knew a few people who went over there instead of the Sports Cafe. But, this year the kick-offs are a LOT later for us than they were last year. (Last year was a lucky freak coincidence, I think. Lots of 12:30 and 2:30 PST games.)

I am so jealous of you. I wish I lived in a city in which I'm not the only member of the USC Alumni Association!. . .Oh well. Good luck and Fight On!

Thanks Brimarie -this is great to be able to watch US channels for free. I may even be waking up at 5 in the mornings on Mondays to keep up with Desperate Housewives when the new season starts next week!

I saw a few NFL games on Channel Five (broadcast TV) early in the mornings (1:30-4:30) during the regular season.  Anyone know who might be showing playoff games which are on in the afternoons eastern time, so more "prime-time" here in the UK?

------
Update: I found a forum for NFL fans in the UK at http://www.nfluk.com/community-forums.php [nofollow] .  It looks like the playoffs and the super bowl will be on Sky Sports (http://www.skysports.com/skysports/nfl [nofollow] ).  I only have digitial freeview, so no joy for me.  Maybe I'll find a pub open late on the Saturday games.  Imagine I'm out of luck for the Sunday games.
