It's going to be interesting to see how this move affects soccer there.

"Soccer" seems to be a tough sport for a lot of Americans to get into (can't wait for Becks to have to start saying soccer!) One of my best friends there says he can't ever get into a sport that can end in a tie.... Hopefully enough kids will start watching - I think that's going to be the key.... Of course it would also help if they had some decent teams to make it more exciting to watch....

The timing is perfect for this for professional soccer in the US.   There are millions of kids who are growing up on football in the US and we now have the first generation of kids who have gone through the system post-world cup.  They're ready for taking it to the next level.    And the number of kids who are now playing on scholarships to colleges.  They will be looking for the next place to play.  They also have grown up  NOT watching baseball or American football.  We knew plenty of people who subscribed to Fox Sportsworld or soccer world and followed the UEFA and Mexican leagues.

Look at what Wayne Gretzky did for hockey in LA. Beckham should do just as well..  He's much better looking than Gretz.

Karen, I'm officially nominating that as the understatement of the year.  ;)

Just heard a quote on the radio from Fabio Capello saying that Beckham will never play to Real again.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

Well thats not really a surprise, he was only there to sell shirts !

The fact is that David Beckham is an average player, but a world class celebrity. Even in his peak he was earning more off the pitch than on it, now he's gonna be £25m a year which is a disgrace when his fellow teamates at Galaxy are on £500k a year.

Becks has effective called time on his top flight career, playing the MLS is like League 1/ Championship standard, so he'll have no trouble peggin a few free kicks, willl help sell shirts i suppose. This is whats wrong with football, when other things become a priority and actuall act of playing football becomes secondary !

Well said.

Beckham has obviously lost interest in football and is just interested in promosting 'Brand Beckham'.  It's only a matter of time before he pops up in Hollywood movies!

The sad thing is that he used to be a great player.  If he went to a club in Europe or the UK where he was actually getting games then he could be great again.  But now he will be a star in a medicre side and will never play for his country again.  Very sad.
