Choc Chip Cookie Dough
« on: January 20, 2007, 01:46:38 PM »
Does chocolate chip cookie dough freeze well? I brought some chips back from the US and I want to make some cookies, but I don't want to make the whole batch at one time. I want to drag out the goodness for a couple of weeks at least!  ;D

I've done that before, I wouldn't keep homemade cookie dough in the freezer for longer than a month, and would probably be a good idea to stir it up again after defrosting.

I've frozen it before too and agree with scarlett about the time frame.  The only thing i'll add is to make sure you have it wrapped up very well.  You don't want to end up with freezer burn.

great topic as I was thinking along the same lines.  I bought a box of Betty Crocker choc chip cookie mix but it makes like 2 dozen cookies and while I would LOVE to sit there and eat them all up at once my ass wouldn't appreciate it one bit.  SO I was going to make the mix and just make about 6 cookies and freeze the rest dragging out the yummy goodness so my ass doesn't realize what I'm doing to it.

Has anyone tried freezing them as individual portions of cookie dough?  I know my parents could buy frozen cookie dough in the states that way and it was soooo handy when you just wanted one or two cookies!

When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Couldn't have said it better myself!  ;D And is it wrong that I don't really want to share them with anyone, but keep them all for myself?? I don't know if my English neighbors would appreciate the Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookie as much as I would want them too! But then, my introducing them to this goodness...could be good for US/UK relations...it's such an international debacle...

I make chocolate chip cookies pretty often for my British relatives and they're always popular!  ;D

DF is *obsessed* with Tollhouse choc chip cookies - the original recipe, from the back of the bag - he's constantly asking me to bring bags and bags of chips back from the US for him.  We've got loads in the cupboards!

Yes.  Freeze the cookie balls on a cookie sheet, then you can throw them in bags.  You can bake them straight from the freezer, just watch the batch to see how much time you need to add on to the time.

If anyone is ever interested, I have a 1953 copy of "The Joy of Cooking" that I bought at an antique store. It has a chocolate chip/toll house cookie recipe, and the book opens directly to it! Somebody had a grandma who loved to bake because there was even a letter that was never sent from 1969 to the woman's grandson. If anyone is interested in some good old fashion recipes, just ask and I can see what's in there!

We were just at Costco today, and they had a BIG plastic thing of Belgian chocolate chips. Perfect for making cookies!

Kim, I freeze some of the dough almost every time I make cookies, but I usually just divide the dough in half, bake half and freeze the rest air tight for a week or so later. It tends to prevent the kids--and me--from eating them all in one go. As far as I know you can freeze just about any cookie dough. I've never frozen individual mounds before but what crabbit says sounds perfect.

I'm running low on my choc. chip supply--and then what??? I'll have to implore visitors to bring some bags.

Yes, they freeze really well and no need to stir after thawing at all.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Just make sure it is not sitting next to anything smelly... I have some basil scented dough in the freezer at the moment.  ::)

I told my parents if they're sending me a package for my birthday, I wants lots of chocolate chips!!!

I made the cookies yesterday. Thank GOD I didn't bake the whole batch as I'm doing serious damage on the ones I did bake. I froze some baked ones and I froze two packs of dough for later.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
