Fun birthday cakes
« on: January 18, 2007, 08:26:10 PM »
Last year I made Jamie a pizza cake for his birthday. This year, he's getting two cakes because we're having two celebrations. Anyway.....

I'm going to make him a lego cake for the dinner with our friends

and some cute clown cupcakes for family dinner

I've never really wanted to make fun cakes until last year. I don't think I'll ever make a traditional cake anymore. I love fun cakes! What are your favorite cakes?

Those are awesome!! The only 'fun' cake I've ever made was a baseball diamond one many years ago when a friend and I held a World Series party. But I always had the coolest birthday cakes as a child; my mother was a birthday cake genius! One year she did a carousel cake with stick candy for the poles and beautiful horses cut out of paper and painted. That was probably my fave.

Those legos look pretty cool!! I've not made a fun cake for ages, but my mom did loads when i was a kid too.  She made one that looked like a big hoop skirt with one of my barbies sticking out of the top, looked like the cake was her dress.  I guess the last one i did was a halloween cake with little tombstones and bones and things made out of candy on the top.

LOL!! My mom made me that one, too!!  ;D

I also had a really cool one that had 12 (or however many girls there were at my party) tiny silver charms hidden in it. Each charm was attached to a thread that was weighted and sat at the place setting for each girl. Then you just pulled and got your charm! Cake everywhere, too! It was a major hit!

That sounds like such fun!  My mom had all these cake molds she'd bought different places.  She had a teddy bear, a bunny, even big bird from sesame street.  She had loads of them.  I bought some scooby doo mini cake molds for Paige's 5th birthday.

happyutopia- The clown cupcakes pic you posted reminds me of some cupcakes I've made for my little girl.  You bake the batter in ice cream cones, the flat bottom kind and then ice the top to look like ice cream, add sprinkles and whatever else you want.
