A year and a half wait?

I was talking to my cousin in the UK on MSN about the possibility of me coming to study there and he told me his American friend (who is currently studying in the UK) said that if I apply January of this year that the earliest I can get in is September of next year, does it really take that long?!

I really think that depends on the program you choose. I am applying to study abroad for one year through my home university (Arizona State U.) at UCL, and I have to apply by March 1st for the fall of 2007.

But honestly, this is very similar to some unis in the US that are harder to get into.

What type of studying to you wish to apply for? Are you wanting to do your entire undergrad in the UK or just a semester/year abroad?

Not sure why your friend's friend thinks this. If you apply this month, you should be able to start in the autumn unless it's a really unusual program. I've never heard of such a long wait myself but I suppose I could be wrong.

I applied to study abroad in the UK in September 2004, and left for the next semester (February-June 2005).  So definitely not a year and a half wait.

Hmm, thanks for the info. That wait would be unbearable!

Also, it has come to my attention that applications to UCAS closed today but I read that it is extended for internatioal students. Can anyone confirm this? My cousin is being paranoid and wants to know for sure. I called UCA but I was put on hold for quite a bit so I hung up.

the info you need is here:http://www.ucas.co.uk/studyuk/applying.html  although for some strange reason it says 2006.  Non -EU students seem to have till June 30. 

I wouldn't even attempt to phone today unless you're going to apply at the last minute.  This is the deadline and I'm sure they're very very busy.

For this type of question, it's probably going to the official website instead of relying on the forum or asking your friends. 

Yea I figured as much. And you're right, all I got when I called was an automated message. What's making me paranoid now is my cousin tells me that the universities may not even look at my application now since its considered late.

I'm still sending one in though and I've gone though about 50% of the application process. Whats killing me though is the personal statement part because I've been told it has to be near perfect. I never had to write any personal statements when I applied for college in the US so I wasn't prepared for this at all!

Oh well, all I can hope is that I don't mess up the application, thanks guys!
