Costco?
« on: February 01, 2007, 07:17:01 PM »
I don't know if I'm really posting this in the right place, but I'd consider it more or less a food question...

Is anyone a member at Costco?  Is it like Costco in the US?  By which I mean, does it carry mostly US brands and products?  I'm asking because there are things I've had a hard time finding here that I know I'd be able to find at Costco in the US but I don't know that I'd find here (for example, I've really been wanting plain old Cheerios and unsweetened applesauce, but I can't find them anywhere...can you tell that we have a baby? :) ).

Also, I checked out the Costco UK website but can't seem to find the bit where it tells you how much it costs to become a member (I only saw the rate for trade membership).  Does anyone know?

Thanks for any opinions!

Jade

yes there has been a lot about costco on this forum lately, but to answer your questions without having to look allover to find bits and bobs of answers...here are some answers.
Membership is the same price here in the UK as the US - @ 25pounds + vat.  (I just came back from the US and that is the lowest priced membership there - they have 4 different catagories now costing around $100 for the next level).
As for american products - it's a mix of US/european - so you may not find the specific items you are looking for, but could ask if they can order or add to their inventory - it never hurts to ask.
One of the nice cheap things we use costco for is film developing.  It's around 3p a print depending on quantity.  They have also just added to most of the UK locations "order from home" so you can send your order in from your computer and pick up later at Costco which is really nice.  Otherwise, they do have 1 hour service too.
We buy a lot of books there since the price is better than anywhere else, except maybe used book stores.  Also get shoes/clothing but that can be hit or miss.
Happy shopping

Jadeprice, I hope that you didn't think that i was unwilling to answer your questions, preferring you to have to 'look allover to find bits and bobs of answers'.
I just thought it would be interesting/useful for you to be able to read the discussions and see everyone's comments.

Oh, no, the specific answer and the links to other discussions were both helpful!  I think that we'll probably join one of these days--if nothing else, we'll probably save money on diapers.

Thanks for the help!
