mid-year starts at Universities?
« on: August 07, 2005, 03:15:17 AM »
Hello,

This may be a dumb question, but here goes:
Do Universities in the UK admit students for January term?  I did it once here in the US for my BA degree, but I don't see any mention of it on any of the Uni's websites.  And, yes, I realise time is ticking away!  I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone and get my BA (hons) in Social Work and live in London.  And I will go COMPLETELY mad if I find I have to wait until next September....Anybody have any experience in this area?

Thanks,
Marybeth

Yes, you can do a 2nd semester start over here.  ;)

Some courses might not let you because the modules (classes) run more than one term. Last year most of my modules were either two terms long or one and a bit.....

yeah, I'm considering doing the same thing.  I'm looking at a Phd program at U of London Royal Holloway and the website says it's rare, but the occasionally accept people into the program in the winter.

So it probably depends on the program you are entering and the school - but even then, there's surprising wiggle room, atleast I have found that to be so for US schools.

Grant,

It wasn't easy to find a uni that accepts mid-year starts.  I had to google  Uni + January + start & wade through pages & pages of crap until I found the three that I'm applying to.  Yikes.  But I just couldn't wait until next September.  Now I'm just waiting for my "referee" to write my recommendations and post the applications (and hold my breath & cross my fingers!)

Depends on your course of study.  Most undergrad courses at Edinburgh University don't accept Jan. students except for those visiting for a semester.
