Estate agent doesn't tell us about viewings sometimes
« on: April 02, 2007, 11:21:25 PM »
We are living in a home which our landlord is selling.  We are notified by the estate agent about 50% of the time that they will be bringing prospective buyers for a home viewing.

I really get angry when they do not tell us and show up.  But I feel like I'm in a bind with the landlord leaning hard on us to have the home in show quality, and wanting to sell it asap (he went from fixed to adjustable mortgage and is hating life with these interest rate increases).

Can I refuse to let them in?  Sometimes with three kids under 5 and school out, for example, the house is a disaster.  The prospective buyers and estate agents have complained to our landlord that the home is simply too messy to sell...we have to vacate sooner so they can show an empty home.

But then they show up again and want to view it!  Grr.

Not to mention the arses who peer into our windows and scare me half to death.  Who does that?!  And try to open the doors into the home so they can see it?  (shaking head)

Yes, you can refuse to let them in.  You are still living there, you have rights.

I would give the estate agent a SERIOUS bollocking.  Tell him that he needs your cooperation to get the place let, and this is what the letting agent wants too.

Thanks, Vicky.  I do feel frustrated in this!

Just to clarify:   our landlord is selling the home we are currently renting.  So these viewings are for buyers of the home, not renters.  No option to rent.

Okay, but the principle is the same.  You could really stitch up a house sale if you wanted, and the estate agents need their commission.
