where to buy bridal necessities (UK)
« on: February 08, 2007, 03:20:48 PM »
In the US Id know exactly where to go, but I dont know anything about where we live :/ Can someone point me in the right sort of direction? I need a veil, shoes, tiara etc...but been banned from buying online (df doesnt want me adding to the cards we are trying to pay off).

We live near Bristol, I dont really like going into Bristol itself but will if theres a good reason ;)

Do discount bridal shops exist here? The veil I like I found in the US but after customs it would be far too expensive to import, and if I found it here at a normal store its likely Id be told no if it isn't 'cheap'. I dont even know how much is too much, as my fiance likes to shoot REALLY low, since he has no clue about things like this...so its led to lots of frustration ;)

You might want to google the Bristol/Bath area for Bridal shops, and that should get your started. I would also post on Hitched for advice, the girls on there are pretty helpful.  I would have also said ebay, but you said you are banned from online shopping, lol.

Best wishes on the planning part, that's the fun bit :)

I know that Debenhams and BHS has bridal stuff.  I think that BHS is a staple city centre store.  The one in Manchester city centre has loads of really cute shoes/veils/tiaras/dresses.  Not that I'm in the market but I did notice last week when I was shopping.  I thought that the prices were reasonable especially for those on a budget and come on who isn't on a budget when planning a wedding!!

You can even go online to check out Debenham's stuff...they really do have some cute things at reasonable prices.

I would still check ebay even if you can't use your card ... lots of vendors accept cheques or postal orders.

Monsoon is a good place to look too, especially if they still have their sale on.

I like monsoon...esp monsoon kids, they have some really adorable stuff...not that Im ever allowed near it ;)

Good news is Ive been told to look online and get a price range, so yay, back to ebay! ;)

Has anyone had the wedding cake from m&s? We've had someone offer to pay for a wedding cake and they suggested we get it from there and further personalise it ourselves...Im just wondering if its good/what sort of icing is on the outside? buttercream or fondant? I know I am not in a position to be picky, but I could actually make the cake myself as I used to make cakes in the past...just prefer not to as it can be sooo stressful!

look in the yellow pages for bridal shops near u , get to try different dresses bearing in mind your budget , dont try sth thats over ur budget.
try ebay like the ladies suggested.
u can guy bits and bobs for here and there like tealights from asda etc,.,,,
write everything down , like the theme for ur wedding. all details from ribbons to flowers etc. see what the venue includes in the package , for exaple the wedding cake teirs were included in the package....
check the prices include VAT !!
try confetti.co.uk ...they have shops round the country and they also have discount outlet shops as well . so u can get loads of bargians. dont buy anything until u know exactly what ur theme will be so u wont change ur miind later.
go to wedding fayres . there are loads going on cos summer is a high season for weddings . im sure there would be one round bristol this march. get the news paper , there would loads of adverts there....'
good luck !
