Hiya from Edinburgh
« on: March 15, 2004, 11:31:39 AM »
Hiya everybody-

Found this site a while ago, and just decided to join.  I'm from Colorado, grew up mostly in California, and have been living in Scotland almost ten years now.  Came as a grad student, met a guy, and well...here we are!  We go back to visit every year, and sometimes talk about one day moving over.  It's a strange feeling though-- I feel about as alien there now as I have ever done here.  One foot on either side of the Atlantic, know what I mean?

On a side note, if there are any American old time or bluegrass musicians kicking around out there, send us a note!  We've got a nice little scene up here in Edinburgh, and it'd be great to meet a few more kindred spirits.

Hi there Bex McK !
I don't play, but love bluegrass music and would love to take a visit up to Edinburgh if there are any musical gatherings or festivals this summer.
Let us know!
take care.

Hi ya Bex Mck!  Nice to meet you!  :)

It's good to know there are others up there in Edinburgh, as my hubby and I are now working on moving up there in the next 8-10 months.  (Getting out of London isn't as easy as I had hoped it would be!)  My husband went to uni there and he's got a few friends there.  Plus all of his side of the family is in the Highlands so we are looking forward to being closer to them.

We don't play bluegrass music, but we do enjoy it quite a bit!  Does that count?  I'm from Nashville and Kentucky so it's pretty much the one thing that always gets me feeling at home.  We especially enjoy Nickle Creek...tho I guess the hard core Bluegrassers may not consider that real music!  We like it tho.

We're coming up to Edinburgh for a weekend sometime in the summer so perhaps you can suggest a fun place to go and see a show or something.

Welcome to UKY, anyway!  Hope to see more of you on the boards!!  :)

Hi Bex, nice to meet you.  Welcome to the site.  My future sis in law has found a love for bluegrass music thru friends in Ohio.  She'd be up for a festival I'm sure of it.  Please keep us informed if there are any.  Thanks.

Hi again-

Nice to hear from you all.
We have a bluegrass festival in Guildtown (near Perth) every summer-- usually the second weekend of August.  It's a lot of fun, especially if the weather is good (though that can be a big IF in Scotland).

I'm enjoying following some of the strands on the site, and look forward to hearing more from everyone.
cheers,
Bex McK
