I suggest York, and have lunch and tea at Betty's!

Great suggestion, happyutopia!  But I've been to York 2-3 times already & Bettys too.  That's an easy day trip for us - and highly recommended! :)

There's no chance the countryside around Bath can compete with the Peak District! I doubt the day spa itself will be too crowded, but the city will most likely be busy.

We've settled on the Peak District this time.  I still do want to go to Bath sometime though, if I can work out when the not so busy season is.  It sounds lovely, but I'm not fond of crowds.

Been looking through accommodations now, for places with oversize bathtubs, and I've found a spa if our accommodation doesn't have one in it.  I told DH he could spend some money on his wife, for a change with this trip... ;)

Love hearing about everyone's weekend getaways, 'cause we're always thinking of going somewhere.

Wondering if madeira has made any progress on her Scotland idea?  I've been to Edinburgh & enjoyed it, would love to go to other places in Scotland - but the places there I most want to see would be the Scottish islands here & there which would involve a bit more traveling from what I can see.

I'm going to Amsterdam over Easter! We just booked the flight and b&b. Has anyone taken bikes out to the windmills? We're also thinking about going to see the tulips in Lisse.

I've not done either of those things whilst in Amsterdam.  My favorite things about the city are, in no particular order:  the art museums, rijsttafel, Prinsengracht Street, flowers seemingly everywhere, the flower markets, Dutch gezellig, Dutch tolerance, New Years Eve, and this place - http://www.poezenboot.nl/  (there's an English version to click)

Definitely go see the tulips in Keukenhof...I went a few years ago when the tulips were in bloom and it was absolutely stunning. We took a bus from Amsterdam, and it was an unforgettable day trip.

Oh and of course don't miss the rijksmuseum.

If you go to Buxton make sure you go to Bakewell as well and have a Bakewell Tart, they are yummy and nothing like you'll find in the shops.
If you're really into walking the Pennines stretch from Derbyshire in the south to Scotland so you can literally start walking and end up north of the border.  There's a lovely ice cream shop attached to a farm up the road from Macclesfield as you drive up the hills, http://www.blazefarm.com/, really yummy.  I think my wife got a flavor called Christmas pudding which sounds like it'd be too rich and sweet but she adored it.
Also, the second highest pub in Britain, the Cat & Fiddle is in the Peak District, http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/25/2584/Cat_and_Fiddle_Inn/Macclesfield.  Unfortunately, I haven't made it there myself yet.
I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Ha ha - I don't want to get my husband started on that! :P  To me, the walk sounds brutal.  I'm just waiting to see if I survive the Dales Way this summer - it's shorter & easier, by far.

Definitely the Peak District - we've got our accommodations booked.  I'm still a little shy on the spa idea really, so will probably leave that off for now -- also not sure of what spa facilities around there would be like & so on.  (Plus we've got the Turkish baths at Harrogate nearby if we ever want to check it out locally.)  We'll likely be doing a lot of walking (hoping for some nice weather!!) & checking out the different towns & villages there.  We're staying at an inn/pub that had some good reviews & the (traditional British) food/beer is supposed to be good -- so I guess that solves what to do if the weather is rubbish. ;D

I have some friends who loooooove the baths in Harrogate!! (sounds slightly too nude-y for me, but they say you get used to it quickly)

Yes, I really want to check it out (Harrogate baths) but have to get my courage up around the 'nekkid' thing!  I'm telling myself it can't be so bad - I think they separate the sessions into all female, or all male, or when it's coed - then you wear a swimming suit.  And I did peel my top off - however timidly, discreetly, and briefly :-[ - whilst on a public Spanish beach...so why should I worry about going nude in an all female session at the baths?

My husband went to a spa with a friend of ours & her partner once when we were in Amsterdam, but I was too chicken to go!  There they each progressed from massage to spa to hot tub (or whatever order/things it was) one after the other - so I think his female friend saw his naked back side at one point as she went after him.  I know it's one of those 'it's all cool' European things that I just need to relax & not worry about! :P
