Can't help with your problem, I'm afraid, but just a heads up that if you are coming to the UK to study for more than 6 months you will definitely still need a visa.

No worries! I know I'll still need one, I just won't have to go through the hoop-jumping associated with having the visa for loan purposes since I'm financing through a US college (at least this is what I have been told by my adviser). I'll be sure to check more into it though. I have to call back today if they don't email me about this whole financial aid award business.

Indeed they are! Some people I have told about my trip seem to think I will be living in a city where everyone wears bowler hats, victorian suits, and rides those bicyles with the huge front wheel saying "cheerrio!" to passers-by, so I don't blame you for worrying about me I'll probably be venting more once I get my passport and apply for my visa though, and may be enlisting your advice!
