Driving lessons

Now that I have passed the theory exam, I am looking to take a few driving lessons before the practical test.  I don't know how many lessons I'll need since I am not "learning" to drive.  Does that make sense?  So, those of you who have been in this situation, how many lessons did you take?  Did you think they were enough or maybe too much?  TIA

I only took 2 lessons. I asked my driving instructor when he thought I would be ready and he said that is all I needed. I took my test in an automatic because I can't drive a stick to save my life. Good luck.

I plan on taking 15 lessons and am halfway through them now.  I'm learning to drive a stick, and it's been far easier than I thought.  My problem is roundabouts -- they freak me out!  I'm lucky that my neighbour is a driving instructor, so we're just taking things nice and slowly (and I get a discount!).  Ideally, I'd like to be fully licensed by June.

If you already know how to drive a stick, I'm sure you'd only need a handful of lessons.

I took about 20 lessons with BSM but that was probably more than enough.  By the end, it was more of a social outting than a lesson as I got on with my instructor really well and he was a great teacher.  Plus, his wife of many years had left him half way through my lessons so we gabbed quite a lot in between him telling me to stop 'palming' the wheel during turns.   

But having said that...I needed to learn stick properly (tried in the US years ago from a BF and failed miserably); I never drove in the UK before; I hadn't even driven for 6 years; I needed to unlearn nearly 20 years of bad driving habits.

I was terrified on my test...especially since my learning car was traded in for a new car the day before my test.  I was the first pupil to drive it...*on my flippin test*!!   

Thankfully I was able to calm my nerves enough to pass on the first go.   Only had one minor on the whole test and that was for clutch control when doing a turn in the road (where the road cambered on the sides).  Hardly a surprise as the clutch just wasn't the same as what I was used to.  I am just *so* glad it's over and done with!  Now I just need be careful and not get any speeding tickets and have to take it again!

I thought I'd only need a handful of lessons but was quite surprised by what was expected on the test (Reversing around a corner? I'm sure that must be illegal in the US).  I'm sure you'll be able to get a refund if you over-book.

I think I had about 10 lessons, but had a 6 week break in the middle.  I drove in the States, but had to learn to do things the British way, which wasn't so easy for me.

I had a two day residential intensive course which was about 10 hours of shared lessons....so I drove 30 minutes then sat in the back while the other person drove 30 minutes. For me I found it perfect...I could relax but still listen to chat and the pointers given to other person, and it meant gettting everything over and done with in a short time. I dreaded lessons and the test so this way took the stress out for me (or condensed the stress to two days anyway ;-) ).

I've had three lessons and think I'll need another 7 to be completely ready for the exam.

I've found driving here (or the expectations they have of you) is a lot different than America. 

I still need to get my provisional license and take my theory test.  I think I'll apply this week.

if i'd known about the existence of these types of courses at the time i was learning, i'd have done it this way as well!
