My boyfriend did a great day tour to the Wicklow Mountains in October. You catch the bus right in Dublin center by the spire.

that's a great day trip. i've done that one, too.

another good one is the connemara day trip that leaves out of galway city centre.

The tourist board centers are really helpful and worth checking out, for tips, ideas and help on planning things to do, as well as booking tours and stuff. You can call into their offices and get help that way, or use them online or both.
