Need recommendations for good non-expensive champagne
« on: March 25, 2007, 08:40:03 PM »
I need some suggestions for champagne that won't blow my budget. No special occasion, I have just been craving some and would like to have a bottle.

 ;D

I remember reading a survey where M&S Cava came far above many other proper champagnes- I haven't had it though- I am an Asti girl!

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

If you aren't looking for true Champagne, the M&S dry Cava (either white or rose) are great!  for 6 quid, you can't beat it.   As for true champagne, I love the Veuve Cliquot in the standard yellow label.  I think it would be a reasonable treat for yourself.  I think it retails around 30 quid.

Bollinger is excellent; about the same price as Veuve.

I recommend going into a OddBins and asking - they are very knowledgeable and thorough at finding out not only what your budget is, but what kind of taste and quality you're looking for.  I've always been impressed with them.

Thanks, guys. The only kind I have ever had was Dom and that is not even near what I could spend now.

Did you ever just get in the mood for champagne?  ;) ;D

If you aren't set of having real champagne try an Italian prosecco - a nice, light, dry sparking wine. In the US it's about $15 a bottle and absolutely delicious (not sure how much it would be in UK).

We always have a bottle or two in our fridge just because  :)

Cuvee Napa is a Californian sparkling which IMOH is much better than Cava.
