A weekend in London...ideas needed!
« on: March 26, 2007, 06:42:23 PM »
DF and I are heading down to London this weekend for both our anniversary and so that he can meet my dad (who is coming into the UK on business this week, yay!)  We're staying in Camden in the Swiss Cottage area and my dad will be in a hotel in the City... we're planning on meeting up with him for lunch or dinner but are not sure what to do the rest of the time!  I've been to London twice before so I've done most of the obvious touristy stuff, so I'd like to get any recommendations for less-obvious fun things to do in London on a weekend!  We'll be there from noon Friday to 6pm Sunday.

There's a Kylie exhibition at the V&A!

Or go on the slides at the Tate modern:

Check out http://www.timeout.com/london/ or buy a paper copy of Time Out London to see if there are any specific events going on this weekend.
Hollywood, CA -> London, UK 2004
London, UK -> Long Beach, CA 2007

How about a Canal boat ride? You can get a boat from Camden Lock to Little Venice, past Regents Park & the zoo & they tell you some interesting history about the area.

As you're staying in Swiss Cottage, get the bus up to Hampstead and go for a walk on the heath, very romantic! And check out some of the historic pubs around there. My favourites are the Holly Bush in Holly Bush Vale and the Spaniards Inn where John Keats reputedly wrote Ode to a Nightingale, it has a lovely garden right next to the Heath.

Also get yourself a copy of Time Out and see what's going on.

Added to that...

Ye Olde White Bear and the Flask  http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml?l=hampstead - two more great pubs in Hampstead.

You could also pop across to Highgate for a walk in the cemetery.

...Or get a boat the other way and go to Richmond or Hampton Court Palace.

well It seems as though your trip has passed allready. However if you ever get to London for another weekend trip... try going to the Boston Arms on a Friday night. They have an event hall in the back and on Friday nights the Dirty Water music club has bands. Lot's of old school Garage Rock. My band has played there before and it was a fun time.
