Another paypal question
« on: March 26, 2007, 06:50:08 PM »
Ok, DH and I have a paypal account we set up over here in the UK. We mostly use it to buy things off ebay.  But now that my bank account is back in the states is running a bit low and I need to pay on my credit card, how is transferring money done through paypal?

Can I do any of the following through paypal?

1) Deposit money into UK paypal account and directly pay into my bank account in the states?

2). Can I pay on my american credit card from our UK paypal account?

3.) Do I need to set up an american paypal account then deposit money into our UK paypal account and transfer it to the american paypal account and then pay it into my american bank account?

4). If I have an american paypal account can I make payments to my credit through that?

Now if I have to have an american account, do I pay ££'s into it and it will automatically exchange it to $$'s or do I deposit $$'s into it?

I am so sorry for all the questions as I have researched the older threads but am still confused.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!   :)

I don't know much about transferring money with paypal, but when I was in the states, I set up a US paypal account with my UK credit card - so I'd imagine that you would be able register your US card on a UK paypal account (unless there are different rules here).

The only problem I have had with opening a UK paypal account as well as the US one is that I couldn't register the same credit card on both - I tried, but it said that the card was already registered to another account, so I couldn't add it (it was so stupid - both accounts were in my name). Apparently the only way to solve this was to close the US account, which I did, but I think something went wrong because still can't register the credit card on the UK one. I gave up trying in the end and so only use my debit card for paypal now.

1. I don't think you can link your US bank account from a UK PayPal account but you can link it to another US paypal account. All you need to do is sign up with a different email address and then wait for the 3 small deposits to go into your US account and then verify those in PayPal (they walk you through those steps) Once that is done, you can pay your US account that way. I do this by having my UK account pull money from my bank account here and then paypal my US account and then withdraw it. It costs a bit but it's worth it due to little hassle. You can have problems if you will be doing this frequently or if it's a lot of money. They are known to do this.

2. I think the same applies to your US card. You would have to use the US account to do this.

3. See number 1 ;)

4. The answer is yes I believe but log into PayPal to verify this. You should be able to do this directly with your US bank as well if you do online banking.

5. Basically, if you are pulling ££ from your UK paypal account, you transfer that as ££ to your US paypal account and then convert that to $$. After that, you withdraw it into your US bank.

If you need any other help, let me know. I do this every month.

I know others here us XE trade I think but I find this a bit tedious

Paypal wanted our credit card to verify our address, is that normal?

No, it is on their website, part of confirming the account. Apparently, if I don't do it, then I am stuck with limits on what I can transfer and how often. Their website is the most pain-in-the-ass mysterious navigation, never a straight answer about anything.

tell me about it.
They've been trying to get me to fully confirm it by depositing two small amounts into my account and wanting me to tell them how much it was for.
I don't have time to go through all the statement looking for their pence they deposited!

But anyway, if its on their site then it must be okay.
They do have some strange ways of verifying things.
Like when they call you with a automated voice and tell you a code. Just to prove your landline is at your address ::)

This is exactly what I am finding so that's why I have turned to all you good people who have experience!  :)

It is normal that they ask of this. It's basically a way to truly verify that you are who you say you are. Believe me when I say that as annoying as it is to do this step with them, it will protect you and who you buy and or sell from in the future. I believe you can use an American debit/credit card as well as a switch here so it doesn't have to be a credit card. I know my US account has my bank debit card as the credit card.

What sucked is that when I entered the info, and they made the automated call, they then said, oh, we can't find you so all that doesn't count, you will have to wait another god-knows-how-long for a letter from us that has the super secret code that will activate your account until we give you another hurdle to jump which will involve probably two more weeks or so.

What their site should say is PayPal: Sign Up for an instant account that will be fully working and site-ready in about two months, all going well, you know how banks are. Good luck.  ::)

that happened to me! they made the call. I answered it and it was silent. I went back on their site and it said the same, oh well wait for the letter crap. It took them about 7-10 days to send it through!
