I'm not joking...I was honestly weaned on pasta.  My mum used to mush it up when everyone else was eating it!!!

The book is 'Bloody Foreigners' by Robert Winder.  It's absolutely brilliant.

There's a really good italian restaurant in Manchester called Gio's. There's a cute/charming italian waiter too  ;)

And I don't know how authentic it is but in the Trafford Center entrance, off the right, there's a little cafe like place with a lot of italian stuff for sale like pastas and oils.

What's wrong with block mozzerella?

It's not authentic, it's mass produced and rubbery.  It joust doesn't taste as good as real buffalo mozzerella.  It might be okay for pizzas, but not fresh in a salad.

It always seem soft and mushy to me, not rubbery.

Yes, I agree with you there - if I were going to have a salad I'd use fresh too.  But you can't really shred fresh mozzarella - there's this restaurant I've been going to since I was a little kid where my parents live and they do a really yummy salad with lettuce, three beans, and an awesome vinegarette dressing and they top it with shredded mozzarella - so good!!!

The best way in my experience to shred 'real' mozzerella is to just tear it with your fingers.  A grater is futile!

I was hoping someone from the midlands would post here and let us know whether or not that place really exists ... or is ever going to! I hope the website is right!

I was at the Bullring today and it's next to Vodafone on the 2nd level. I've passed it before but never paid much attention to it.
