registered with 2 gps --- 2 nhs numbers?
« on: May 01, 2007, 06:08:52 PM »
i registered with one gp in my area, but i felt the waiting time to see the doctor was too long (took two weeks to get an appointment), so i then registered with a different gp who is also in my area. they both had me fill in registeration cards, and on both i put that this was the first gp in the uk with whom i had been registered, as the card made it sound as though you'd only put down having registered somewhere else to collect records, and i obviously had no records with the first gp, having decided against going to the appointment.

now, though, i've received a card in the mail saying i have an official nhs number with the first gp and that to change gp's i must present the card to the new one, etc. do i need to go back to the 2nd gp with this card? will i be sent another nhs number from the 2nd gp? thank you.

You need to decide which GP you want to be registered with and take your name off the list with the other.

You keep your NHS number regardless of who you are registered with.  Go to the second GP with this info, and then call the first GP and tell him that you want to be taken off their list.
