Does anyone have any experience with re-entry issues back to the UK from the US? In OCt 2006 I brought our dog over to the UK under PETS with little problems. But I had to bring him back to the US in April 2007 when diagnosised with a very aggreassive and deadly cancer that had spread and I wanted to have my dog with me.
Treatments have gone well even though the cancer is VERY likely to return. But I'd like to spend the next 3 months (hopefully more!) between scans in the UK with my partner and my dog. We were planning just to take him back under PETS, assuming nothing changed. But I just checked today on DEFRA and found this:
The six month rule for entry or re-entry to the UK
Your dog or cat may not enter the UK under PETS until six calendar months have passed from the date that your vet took the blood sample which led to a satisfactory test result (see below). Once the vet has issued the PETS documentation and that six month period has passed, the PETS documentation is valid for your pet to enter the UK.
It's the "re-entry" part that scars me. Does this mean I have to get blood work done 6 months before I re-enter??? This would be catostrophic. Can't they just take the blood test from 2006? I can't imagine 6 months without him, or my partner who is commmited to staying in the Uk for work etc, and we are just buying a house. My dog was one of the main sources of love and support I had for the last 15 months - he helped pull me through and helped keep me off of anti-depressents, for goodness sake. I can't imagine leaving him in the US or in quarantine and really don't know what to do.
ANY advice, loop-holes, ANYTHING is appreciated.
