Regular like household appliances...
« on: May 04, 2007, 10:04:10 AM »
So I'm not very technically minded, but technically, could I bring things like Food Processors over and switch the plugs like and use them without my house blowing up???

Because I just spend a wad on a new Kitchenaid Mixer to match my new kitchen that I spent a wad on I could have brought one over from America???

TIA!!!

If you buy a huge, heavy, relatively expensive transformer you could.  But I can guarantee that it wouldn't match your new kitchen.  I got mine from NewMarket Transformers - £75.

nope it would explode!  We've been looking into Kitchenaid mixers and it just really sucks how expensive they are here and how cheap they are in america. I've been thinking about calling Kitchenaid and asking if they can change over the motor-tell them I already have it and I'm moving to England ...

I bought the Newmarket transformer for my US kitchenaid for less then 75 quid.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

At risk of boring those who have heard me say this more than once before, whatever you do avoid the cheap transformerless converters like the plague.  They do not provide an output which is suitable for running motors and will cause you nothing but trouble if you try.

Get a proper transformer, like the ones sold on the Newmarket or Airlink sites.  They're bigger, heavier, and cost more, but well worth the investment and will last for years.
