I know it SEEMS like fruit is more expensive here, but trust me...if you like in the right place, it isn't! I'm from Texas, where we seem to have some of the cheapest produce in the country, and I still pay less (when considering price levels, of course) for my fruit here in London. Just find the right market!! If you can find a cheap vendor via your local market (I'm really lucky in that I have the cheapest fruit/veg stand on earth just outside our Tube station everyday of the week!), you'll pay rock bottom prices for your produce.
Try different ethnic cuisines. Don't limit yourself to Mexican and Italian. Try curries or different Indian-influenced dishes. Moroccan cuisine is healthy, unusual, and delicious! Get a Lebanese cookbook. Have fun experimenting with foods you don't normally cook with. If you're sick of pasta but want a good starch with your meals, try couscous!!
I find buying a new cookbook makes me itch to get in the kitchen and try loads of new stuff.
