Flooded cars
« on: July 24, 2007, 12:47:34 AM »
I see a lot of flooded cars on the news. I want to know if they can be driven when the water(floods) go away?

I guess some would be drivable - depends on how far the water ingress has been and how much damage to the electical systems has taken place.

Guess most of them will get written off and plenty of spare parts will abound!

If you're looking to pick one up on the cheap - it's possible, from checking the car yourself or better would be to wait till all the salvage dealers get them and advertise them for sale as water/flood damaged and if they start and drive or not..

I may be wrong but I think the cat converter would be FUBAR (fecked up beyond all repair) once it got wet.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

I don't think I'd be wanting a car that sat in floodwaters that can contain everything from bodies to feces. I can't imagine you can get rid of the smell from the car seats and interior. Ew.

I know in the US after hurricanes they make a big deal about people selling rebuilt flooded cars and that it's a big no no, if not illegal. Particularly when they don't tell you it was previously flooded.
