need budgeting help

I am trying to put together a budget prior to my arrival in Edinburgh and need some idea of what utilities cost there.  Based on a two-bedroom flat with a single occupant, can you tell me wat I might expect to pay for water/sewwag, electricity and natural gas?  It would be of great help.  I have seen older posts regarding utilities, and am tryng to get an updated picture given the current economic climate.

Our appliances and heat are ALL electric and we pay about £110/month for a two bed flat with four occupants.  Gas can be cheaper, but just be aware that living in a flat with no double glazing or really high ceilings and bare floors or that faces north is going to make for high bills.

Rents on two-bed flats tend to run about £700-£900/month.

If you're a full-time student, you won't have to pay council tax.

Thanks for the information, especially regarding the double-glazing and northern exposure.  I am hoping to have gas appliances, especially a gas cooktop(hob?).  In general, is water/sewage handled as a seperate utility, or is it included in the rent?  I will be a student, so thankfully exempt from council tax.

I'm not really sure how it's handled if you're a student, because it's normally rolled into your council tax pill - the water, sewage and rubbish collection.

Gas isn't that much cheaper than electric now, FWIW.

What will really hit your wallet is if the place is not double-glazed.  It will be VERY cold in winter if it's a traditional Victorian tenement.
