Food additive linked to DNA damage, etc.

At least the supermarkets are getting rid of them. Why did we need them in the first place?

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Don't even get me started on the whole 'ACCENT' msg thing. I try to not buy stuff with msg in it, but was totally surprised to find that accent was msg on it's own! Blech!

I banned sulfur dioxide and sulfites from my diet a couple of years ago. Mostly I was getting them in "healthy" foods: dried fruit, fruit spread sweetened with white grape juice, bottled lemon juice, etc. I dropped 15 pounds in the first two months after I cut out the sulfites and felt a lot better. One thing I like about the UK is that they seem to use fewer additives--it's much easier to find things without preservatives, artificial colors, etc. I'm very glad to hear that the supermarkets are heading even more in that direction.

Unless you're looking for drinks without artificial sweeteners!  Although, those are easier to avoid than the ubiquitous high fructose corn syrup in the US.

I'm not a big water drinker. In fact, I hate it unless it's lightly sweetened. I try not to drink fizzy drinks and HATE milk. If they take away artificial sweeteners (which I always knew were bad) then what can people like me drink? I used to love selzter with flavour back home. It was just a hint of flavour with no sweeteners at all. There is nothing similar here as all have artificial something in them. I wonder.

I do agree that the UK has less artificial anything in their foods here though. It's nice to know what I'm eating here as opposed to weird ingredients back home

Can you add your own fruit juice to soda water? I drink orange juice (a small amount) added to soda water a lot and it's great.
