Question on pet day care in Berkshire area (Windsor)
« on: May 28, 2007, 08:37:20 PM »
We have a small dilemma when we first arrive in England. We have completed the whole process with getting our basset hound over to the UK through the PETS scheme. We are fortunate enough that my job will pay for a hotel when I first arrive. However, our dog will need to stay elsewhere until we locate a letting. Does anyone know of a good dog day care/boarding company in the Bershire area-near Windsor or Heathrow? We use one where we live in the US and they are quite well equipped and take great care of our dog. We are trying to avoid a kennel, but if that is all that they offer in the UK, we'd have no choice.

Just watch out for hotels that are really in Canada... but many hotels take dogs.  Some even take cats!

Petcare often has boarding facilities or at least references for boarding.

These are near Windsor, but Petcare is almost everywhere, and you can google pet-friendly hotels for any area you need.  Hope that helps!

Do you need a hotel or just a kennel that you can leave the dog at during the day? Or both? You probably won't be able to leave a dog at a hotel alone during the day obviously. There are loads of kennels in the UK and many of them are really, really good. I'd start with a Google search but also use Yell.com.

Thanks for the great information, I appreciate it! I will definitely look into Pet Care.
I will also check out kennels through Google and Yell. I am just so afraid of kennels because in the US they are pretty terrible. We had the unfortunate incidence of once having to put our bassett in a kennel (not our choice, but long story) and she came home with kennel cough and a lousy stomach. I don't think she'd survive a long flight and a stay at a bad kennel!

Try to get references, obviously. And when you phone them, tell they your experience so they are on their toes.

Good luck!
