Oh, I see! Okay, then maybe you can tell me why the nurse asked me my religion over the phone and what they would actually do with that information. That made me feel a bit anxious; I am sure it is obvious I have never had surgery.

Good point. All right, I didn't even consider they had them here in the U.K.

I had the surgery on Friday. I am still quite swollen in the face and in pain. I want to say a HUGE thank you to those who told me their experiences as it was definitely a huge relief to have a hotel room waiting for me after the surgery. At the hospital, the consultant actually told me I would be better for work by Monday (I took at least a week off) and today is Monday and I have a puffy face and I am not going anywhere! Ant advice for relieving the pain that does not involve codeine (that made me quite irritable yesterday after taking it for three days)?

When I had my surgery, Tylenol or over here Paracetamol, was the best. In fact, it relieved the pain better than codeine ever has. Try it. It can't do you any harm and it won't give you whacky nightmares or irritability like codeine can

I've never had wisdom tooth surgery but after my other surgeries ie c/section I found Ibuprofen to work better than codeine or paracetamol. It's an anti-inflammatory too.

I took ibuprofen too because the vicoden made me really sick.

I can't take codeine, so I took ibuprofen as well. It was fine.

Thanks for your comments. I have been to the dentist and apparently the surgeon did quite a job on me so I am now on strong antibiotics and will have to see the dentist a couple times this week to see whether my mouth has opened up enough for her to see the site of the extraction (I have a nasty cut and hence, stitches in my lip and stitches inside my mouth in a couple places with a cut inside my mouth).

I have been really missing my family back in the States as I know my parents could help take care of me, especially while my husband is at work. I have a couple friends here who I have notified about my health, although it is definitely not the same thing. My inlaws live a few hours away. I have been whingey with my husband; I just want to get on with things already! When I was at the doctor's earlier I nearly passed out because of dehydration and being feverish. A bit scary. I can't say I am used to being this ill; it really reminds me how alone one can feel in a situation like this when they have family in another country.
