imposter!

Hi!
It is possibly a bit fraudulent of me to join this site since a) I’m not American, b) don’t have an American s.o. and c)  I don’t even live in the UK!  However, I am an expat and having lurked intermittently on this site, I’ve found I can relate to many of the thoughts and feelings posted here.  So, hope you don’t mind me gatecrashing!
Steph

Hiya Steph, and welcome!  I'm also a complete imposter here, since I fail most of what one might think to be the important qualifications to be allowed to post to this forum.  But the Americans and their SOs have always made me feel incredibly welcome here, and I have made many friends.  I think you will, too!

I look forward to hearing more about you, where you live, (terribly nosey!) and so forth.

In the meantime,
Welcome again!
Howard

Gatecrash away!  We have a few other expats from other places about.  I am like everyone else and just wanted to say welcome and I hope to get to learn more about you!

Hi again, and thank you so much for the welcome!

I’m living in Spain now – having spent 20 years working for financial institutions in London I succumbed to a mixture of terminal boredom and a mid-life crisis and decided to start all over again in Spain.  I hedged my bets a bit by taking a sabbatical from my job just in case it all seemed like a catastrophic mistake the moment I stepped off the plane, took a TEFL course with the vague idea of teaching English a few hours a week and flew out to Granada just over a year ago.

It took me about a week to decide to convert my sabbatical into something more permanent and since then I spent about six months learning Spanish in Granada, a couple of months back in the UK tying up loose ends,  then moved to a tiny village in Almeria from where I half-heartedly looked for a job for a while before deciding that I didn’t want to work anyway and would write a novel instead.

Needless to say (and fortunately for the people who have to read unsolicited manuscripts sent to publishing companies), as soon as I decided I didn’t want to work I got a job. However, at least it isn’t in a financial institution, the pace of life is lovely, and it still feels like I made the right decision!

Thanks again for the welcome and I look forward to getting to know you all!

Regards
Steph

Always love to hear from fellow people who like Spain.  My mother is from a tiny tiny town in Almeria and it's quite an interesting place.  I too ran away to Spain once and met my husband.  Unfortunately duty called me away, but we hope to return one day again for a little bit longer than just a weekend trip.
