Could someone explain the repatriation process?

My husband lost his job and this is perhaps our only option now.  He is British and I am American

Have a look here for the process of filing the I-130 with the US Embassy, (if you are eligible to file in the UK). Also make yourself familiar with the USCIS site - all updated forms and fees can be found there.
