selling (or buying) a car on eBay
« on: May 23, 2007, 06:03:39 AM »
Anyone bought or sold a car on eBay?

Sunday was free listing day for motors, so i put my old car on ebay for sale.  There are 3 people 'watching' at present.

I just dont understand how this is going to work.  In normal eBay, if you are the winning bidder, you have bought the item.
But with cars... surely no one is going to bid without actually seeing or driving the car... will they?   ???

I bought my car on ebay! ;D

I had done my research, knew what model and make I wanted and along with searching the dealerships, Loot etc, I also searched ebay. I happened to find what I was looking for not too far from where I live. I contacted the seller and went to see the car while the auction was still pending, and test drove it so I knew I was going to bid.

I got my car for slightly less than "Blue Book" (although I know they don't use that term here) and way less than what I would have paid at the dealers. Besides the color, it is exactly what I wanted and 10 months later I am completely happy with my purchase.

I would not be surprised if someone contacts you to view the car!

I've bought two vehicles via eBay, but in both cases they were relatively nearby and I went to inspect first.

My dad has bought two cars off of eBay. One he was able to drive out to see before hand (actually I think he ended up not buying that one) and the other was too far away to see before hand, but it was actually listed through a dealership. He flew to Philadelphia and drove the car back. He got a great deal.

3 people watching, 3 days left... and no one has contacted me to ask more questions, or to view the car.   :-\\\\

Don't worry. People have learned not to bid too early. I didn't bid until the final hour of my auction.

I don't know, my boss has bought several cars on ebay and he never looks at them before. He just goes through the pictures and may email a question or two, but I dont' think he's ever went and looked at one beforehand.

12 people watching, and i got no bids.
Within minutes of the auction ending, people started emailing me, asking for my 'best price'.   I accepted one guy's offer, and he never came to collect the car.

So i still have the car, and am not best pleased.
