Transferring a FASFA
« on: June 26, 2007, 10:36:53 PM »
okay, so my boyfriend went through the rigamarole of FASFA, MPN etc, just as the university was about to sign (after spending about a year working with them) they drop the bombshell that the specific course my boyfriend wanted to do is ineligible for FASFA (cue tears from me and lamentings of "why on earth didn't you check that a year ago?!!!)
So he's got 3 days to get a UCAS application in (don't get me started, I'm not annoyed as such, just kinda devestated right now) IF he gets into the same uni on a different course, could he transfer the FASFA? the MPN and the School certificate weren't returned as it was at that point that the completely idiotic student admissions advisor thought to check if that course was FASFA eligible.

Also, this is a one year course which is a prelude to a 3 year degree which would be FASFA eligible...could he get some other loan to cover this first year's tuition and reapply for FASFA next year?

Any help would be appreciated (and hugs) :)

if it's the same uni, he should be able to use the fafsa he's already filled out, no problem.  (I'm not sure if you can add school codes to the fafsa though in the case of a different university- you probably can, though.)

If he's set on the course that he's already been admitted to, there are always private loans which may cover the cost...however, private student loan companies tend to follow the FAFSA rules so if his course isn't eligible for federal aid (I'm guessing it's a foundation year?) then he may not be able to get a private loan either...but it's worth a try in any case.

Good luck to both of you!

yes, it's a foundation year, I should have mentioned that, he has a patchy academic record really. mostly because he didn't really try, and now he is, he's fighting his GPA every step of the way and wanted a clean break.
I'm hoping he can get into university on a normal BSC  through UCAS, I think maybe a good personal statement and talking to the admissions officer may help him out, it worked for a few of my friends.
finger crossed, as really, I don't know what else we can do to get him over here :/

sorry for double post : this is from FASFA....
If I want to apply to more than six schools, what do I do?
Submit your application with the first six schools listed. After your application is processed and you receive your Student Aid Report (SAR), go to the FAFSA on the Web home page and select "Make Corrections to a Processed Application" under the FAFSA Follow-up sections. Add up to six additional schoools on your application.
Note: You may have to remove some schools from your application to add new ones.

What if I'm attending (or planning to attend) a foreign school that does not have a code, but is eligible to receive Title IV aid?

   1. Enter the code for a school based in the United States that you would not mind seeing your information. (This is because you must enter at least one code on the FAFSA)
   2. When you receive your Student Aid Report you will need to send it, or a copy of it, to the foreign school's financial aid officer responsible for handling financial aid for American students.
   3. Follow the financial aid officer's instructions for obtaining the aid you are eligible for.

I'm assuming from this, he can send the FASFA to any school because it just has a generic school code on his original FASFA.
