Recommendation on movers?
« on: July 06, 2007, 04:27:06 PM »

We're moving over in August (North Devon) and I'm getting quotes from movers.
We're in the NYC area. Anyone have any recommendations on reliable movers? It's not just a question of price of course.

Thanks

Andy G. in New Rochelle, NY

I was very happy with Sterling International (google it). They handled the packing and shipment of two of my shipments.

Hi,
I used Sterling too.  They are a bit pricey but if you are going to London area (to me N. Devon is just outside London) and are taking lamps they will swap the electronic bits for you.  Very convenient.

They were the only company that knew where Orkney was - so we're a bit remote!  I had a fairly good experience - nothing was broken.  The guys in SD who picked up my load said they were going to repack it - which they didn't.

However, be careful when packing artwork that is framed.  Make sure anything is glass is not in bubblewrap as it could sweat and cause condensation on your prints or photos.

Make sure your move is insured - how many times have we seen containers bobbing about recently in the news!  Yikes!

Be brutal about packing stuff -really pare down if you can.

Good luck.

Buzzy
