what else?
« on: June 29, 2007, 12:25:39 AM »
this is what i have:

letter from uk uni stating unconditional acceptance to a postgrad course
letter from uni saying i've firmly accepted my place
up to date passport
passport size photo
bank statement showing access to funds required by uni
photocopy of my college degree

those are what i know i need to send. i also have from the uni a yellow card that i'm supposed to give to an entry clearance officer stating that i should be given leave to remain  for 4 months after the end of my course. i always thought the entry clearance officer was who stamped my passport in the uk. is that right? do i need to send the yellow card with my visa application? also, in this pamphlet for international students i received from the uni, it says i must be immunized against tb, polio, mmr, and i think something else. do i have to present proof of immunization when i send for the visa?

is there anything i am missing?

and i do apply for part of the visa online?

thank you so much. it's really good to have a place where i feel like i can ask these questions and get such knowledgeable advice in return.

I believe the immunization rules don't apply to Americans. We're all imunized at birth for MMR and Rubella (german measles).

Also, haven't we erradicated polio?

There's nothing about immunization on the Britainusa website. I think this must be for countries that still have problems with these diseases. I'd check with the university though, it might be them that requier proof of imunization?)

Yes, you do apply online. It's easy, just have all of your info in front of you. Then you can pay online, print a copy. They'll tell you what documents to send and where to send them after that. (I'd send the yellow card with the application, since the visa is what says how long you can stay, not the IO. You'll get it back so you can bring it as well.)

Good Luck!!!!!

Hey i got that same info about vaccinations from Sheffield when i studied abroad there- don't worry about it.  As an american you don't need any additional vax. It's not needed for the visa either.

And yes- send the yellow card! I didn't get my 4 months extra and had to have it corrected once i got to the UK, which was a big hassle.

The Entry CLearance Officer is the guy in the consulate who decides if you get the visa or not.  The guy at the airport is the Immigration Officer.
