When my mom was still alive, I called about every 5 days or so. Now, I try to call my dad and sister (they live together) every week, but since my father is nearly deaf, I can't always talk to him if my sister isn't in.
Otherwise, my family life is complicated. I am from a "blended" family (do they still use that term?) and have no brothers and sisters that share both of my parents. The communication really varies from fairly frequent Google Voice texts/Facebook/email and phone calls every few months to my one brother who I rarely speak with (nor does anyone else really). One of my sisters who I grew up with and I used to be fairly close, but after my mom's death we've not been as close. It's always been swings and roundabouts with her, so I am not too worried. She's my sister, and I think that for too long I was considering her a friend, which you can rarely do with siblings. I have a few more distant relatives on FB (cousins, step-cousins---like I said "blended, nephews, a slew of inlaws), but I don't talk to them all that much.
I guess it's one of the reasons we chose the UK over the US. Don't get me wrong, I love my family, and would have loved to spend more time with them, especially my parents, but ultimately my husband is closer to his than I am to mine. I talk to my friends in the US sometimes more often than my family.
