Tuna
« on: July 28, 2007, 10:24:38 AM »
I'd like to buy some canned tuna for casseroles and tuna salad, but the stuff I've tasted is too fishy. Any suggestions for a good brand? I haven't seen any of the usual US brands in my local (Aberdeen) stores.

John West is probably the best brand you can find in a supermarket but it's still fishy because tuna is, well, fish!   ;) But it doesn't taste like catfood like some of the cheaper brands do.

I second John West - it tastes pretty much like tuna from back home. :)  It's not white albacore or anything, just plain tuna, but I've eaten tuna fish sandwiches made from it and they taste just like plain Starkist tuna fish sandwiches.

For everyday use, I buy Princes Yellowfin Tuna in brine (it comes in a yellow tin) - I get this from Morrisons.  I prefer it to the John West that I have tried.

If you really want nice tuna, I buy Sainsburys Taste the Difference Albacore tuna - it comes in a glass jar, but it's pricey!  So I only use that for nicer dishes I make with tuna - like extra fancy tuna sandwiches or tuna pasta, etc.

I like Princes tuna in brine it has the blue label, not as good as Starkist but it is a good substitute though.
