Craftiness! (Book-Making)
« on: July 28, 2007, 05:28:37 PM »
I went to an all-day book-making workshop today and loved it! I never in a million years thought any of us could make a book so professional looking! I ended up making two:

The smaller one is actually pretty teensy. I'm going to keep in my handbag. I'm not sure what I'll do with the larger (black & red) one yet.

For the covers, I just used decorative papers I had lying around the house. And the spine is bookbinding fabric that the instructor had with her for us to use. Some people covered their books with fabric, but since I don't sew I don't really have fabric scraps at home. I would like to try it, though - it was really effective.

This is definitely something I'll be doing more of!  ;D

Those are gorgeous!
You could make more and sell them at the car boot sale.
There is a bookshop at my work that sells blank books with decorated covers, and they cost a fortune!

But if you look at the insides, you can tell that I'm not very good at it. The edges of the pages aren't very neat.  :(

They are very pretty!  You are so crafty.  I remember the sugar flowers, lovely.

I've done book-making off and on over the years. It takes time to get the little things perfect (i.e. those inside pages!) but they are such nice things when you are done.

Chary, I've used both paper and fabric. I do prefer the fabric but you have to have the right glue (as I'm sure you know!).
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

If you have any pointers, I'd love to hear them!!

What sort of glue do you need for fabric? I know some of the people in the class used fabric, but I was so engrossed in my own projects that I didn't pay any attention to what glue they were using. I think we all mostly used either PVA or Pritt Sticks. I do know that the people using fabric ironed on interfacing before making their book covers. Do you do that?
