Stupid question probably.. but is Covent Garden open on Sundays?  Also.. is there cheap family-friendly food nearby?  :)

Yes, it is definitely "open" on a Sunday.  And there are tons of places to eat nearby.  On Langham street, just kitty-corner from the tube station, is Cafe Pacifico which is definitely family friendly....best Mexican in all of the UK as far as I know.  Also there are lots of sandwhich places and cafes around there including the Speghtti House, Garfunkles, etc.  Just walk about two minutes towards Leicester Square to find a good choice.

Yep Covent Garden is open.  Only the tube/underground station closes to people who want to go back into it; which will mean that you have to leave by another station if you want to go back via london underground.

In Covent garden there's some excellent places to eat.

The World food cafe is just off neal street in neal's yard it has a lot of excellent food.  It's a vegi restaurant but they serve a lot of excellent food from all over the world.

www.worldfoodcafe.com - which I couldn't get to work :(

then there's Wagamama is in the opposite direction from neal street when you are close covent garden station.  It's a fusion of chinese, japanese and orental cooking; they have a mixture of very delicious food which is an essentual place to eat if you go to London.  If not at this branch, you should go to one of the others in London :)

there's Food for thought another strictly a vegi eating place, but they serve excellent, fully prepared on the premisis, well made food and very large helpings!

and finally there's Belgo which is a Belgium restaurant of all things!  Yes, they sell halves of chicken roasted on a spit, mussles or even just chips.  All served by the waiters dressed as monks....

Hope this helps :)

NO?  Ok, here's a site that will tell you almost all of the restuarants in the covent garden area.

Just had a look at the site and apparently there's a tgi friday's in the middle of bedford street!!  Although I've never seen it! :P....I know where we're going next time we're in covent garden!!

Wow!!  Thanks so much both :) :)  That was way more helpful than I could've imagined.

One question though.. why can you not LEAVE from Covent Garden station??  That seems really odd  ???  Where is the next nearest tube station?

Covent Garden closes on Saturdays because of the sheer volume of people, plus to get from the underground area to the top of the station you have to use lifts which appear to cause a bottle neck.  Leicester Square and Holburn stations are quite close by.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

Just to clarify, you can exit from Covent Garden station on a Sunday, you just can't enter the station and return home that way after you've done your exploring.  As Caitlinn said though, there are several stations within a very short distance from there.  Leicester Square, Charing Cross and Holborn to name just a few, are all within five minutes walk from the market.

"Covent Garden is only 260 metres from Leicester Square station, the shortest distance between two adjacent stations on the Underground network."  :o

Anyone going to Covent Garden should really make an effort to see the Annie Leibovitz exhibition at The Hospital Gallery.   It's excellent, it's called 'American Music' and is photos of musicians.  I will warn you though that it made me really homesick.  Plus, Lastminute.com was selling tickets 2 for the price of 1.  I'd highly reccomend it.
