« on: June 16, 2007, 04:24:42 PM »
Armistead Maupin has just released the newest title in his Tales of the City series - Michael Tolliver Lives.

I'm such a huge fan of this series, I'm giddy with excitement!  Yay!!

(okay, someone else has to post here so I don't fee like the only geek)

I don't know the series personally, but I read about the new book in my Psychologies magazine today (I find the book reviews to be generally excellent). It looks quite interesting; must be exciting to be able to see a link with a character. Let us know what you think of the book.

Actually I've been dying to start reading Maupin...I have heard such good things about his writing and he's been compared to a lot of authors I love. This is a good reminder for me to get on this series!

I read it last week.  There are benefits to working in a bookstore.  I loved loved loved the other novels.  This one was good, but not as interconneced as the others, if you know what I mean.

But then it is the last book, it was almost like a letter from a friend telling you how things are going.  Warning however, there was a fairly graphic sex scene, which wasn't the case in the other books.  Also, it was hard for me to believe that Brian is basically the age of my dad, 62.

It may not be the last book.  I just read an interview with Maupin, and he said that revisiting the character(s) was such a postive experience, he'd like to do it again.

Getting my hands on books early was one of my favorite bookstore perks, too.  Except for the stinkers at Scholastic who wouldn't let us open those darn Harry Potter boxes early. ;)

WHAT?!?!??!?!!

Do you know how happy this news makes me?!?! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I read the full series eons ago, but they were mostly library books. In the past couple of months, I've managed to buy second-hand copies of all of them and thought I now had the full set. Damn. More book shopping.  ;)

Being a San Francisco girl, these books were SO important to me in college. I think I would need to re-read them before reading this one though so may have to start keeping my eyes open for cheap copies of the whole series!!!!

I found some in shops in Hay, then the rest on Amazon Marketplace. Happy shopping!!

I still haven't re-read them all, but plan to sometime soon. What great stories!  :)

Before coming back to the UK in May I reread the whole series because my dh's house has no room for my books.  Awwwwww, I loved the series.

If anyone's interested, Armistead Maupin will be on Book Club on Radio 4 next week at 4pm. You can listen again if you miss it - or if you're not in the UK.
