Edinburgh recommendations?
« on: July 29, 2007, 03:46:22 PM »
My friend and I are in Edinburgh until tomorrow night, but haven't really planned any farther than "whee, let's drive to Scotland!"  Any ideas where we should eat tonight/tomorrow?  She doesn't do fish, whereas I love seafood, so a seafood place that does other stuff as well would work; we're both in jeans so nothing too fancy, please!

Thanks in advance! :)

Oh, this might be too late now...

The best (imo) for seafood are around the waterfront in Leith - They all serve seafood along with other stuff (i hate seafood too but love the restaurants) and are all pretty casual.  My favourite is the Waterfront (wonder why the called it that?)

Hope you had a great time in Edinburgh - that's where we're based and i love it!

There are sooo many great restaurants in Edinburgh...all depends upon the price you want to pay of course...these are some of my favourites, of course this is all my own opinion!

The witchery - classic!  but probably the most expensive in edinburgh but you wont get the atmosphere anywhere else
Stac Polly - there's about 3 in edinburgh, again a bit pricey, but fantastic food - don't miss the Deep fried haggis in filo pastry (sounds ghastly but it's totally gorgeous)
Siam Erawan - Thai restaurant and my personal favourite
The cavalry club - indian (not my personal choice, but everyone raves about it)
The Tower Restaurant - never been, but it's on my list to go...
La Piazza - totally lush italian, family owned, really friendly
Viva Mexico - best mexican in edinburgh...need to book way in advance!

That's just from the top of my head, if you want to be more specific in terms of types of restaurants then i'd be happy to give more recommendations

I've lived here over 5 years and can count on two hands the number of restaurants I've been in. :-[

Do chippies count?
 ;D

Chippies definately count!  I even have recommendations on them if need be...especially one in Stockbridge who deliver. :)

Afraid my days of frequent restauranting are largely in the past as we have two small children and not much money, but Vittoria's in Elm Row is tasty, and the Raj in Henderson Street is good, too.

but what is a "chippie?"

It's also a carpenter, just to confuse you even more...
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.
