Hey!  DH and I booked our first Bank Holiday excursion to Glasgow.  Has anyone been there?  Any recommendations?

What's everyone else doing for the bank holiday?

Hi NJ2London

Sadly i'll be working but i'm sure you'll have a great time in Glasgow, it's a really vibrant city!  I lived there for a while but never did the tourist thing...depending upon what you want to do, there's something for everyone but my highlights are:

Ashton Lane (just off byres road) for pubs and bistro type restaurants...they mostly all have beer gardens so if the weather is great then perfect.

Take a walk up to Glasgow University (just round the corner from Ashton Lane) and take in the architecture of the building itself and then check out the view accross glasgow.

The science museum is supposed to be fab, never been but heard good things

Kelvingrove art gallery is stunning (recently voted scotlands no 1 tourist attraction)

If i can think of anymore i'll let you know...but have a great time!

I support Celtic so I can recommend the Celtic Park tour, if you are into football. Its a pain to get to tho  ::)

You have to get the rail to Bellgrove ( I think) and then walk to the stadium.

I am not doing a lot this weekend, was away the last 2 weekends so will probably have a quiet one :)
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

Wish I could offer suggestions!

but alas, my 2 visits to Glasgae were extremely blurred due to a large intake of Johnny Walker Black Label!

I do remember talkin to some lovely Glasgae lasses and half finding out about the place and where I was etc and the vague memory I have is that there's lots of things to see and do in and around Glasgow!

the best I can do is if you drive there, some of the views and scenery along the motorway is fantastic - more so if there's a nice sunset happening!

I'll leave it to the expert Scots and Glaswegians to give you more tips and I need to work out how to visit again next time to get a better experience of the city & the friendly people there!!

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!

The only advice I can give you is stay away from the Necropolis!  It's the cemetary high on the hill in Glasgow.  It intriqued us and we drove up there - it was very interesting to see all the huge monuments and grave markers of famous scots and the view of the city of Glasgow was nice.  But...all the goth's that were hanging up there buzzed on drugs and alcohol were a danger!  They tried to block our car along the road and then after letting us through, they started throwing large rocks at the car on our way down!  We were scared to death and left the city and never returned!

I love the Necropolis, and i've never had a problem with being attacked by anyone.

It's really beautiful, and if you are lucky you might see some of the herd of deer that live there.

Take the open-top bus tour... it goes round some very nice places.
