Air Purifiers in UK

I suffer very badly from sinus problems, and have been told to get an air purifier by a doctor I saw in the States last time I was there. My mother works for her - she's a wonderful doctor that believes in homeopathic and natural remedies alongside modern medicine. She's already got me on a very stringent neti pot regime that has slightly improved my condition, but as I'm still suffering, I think it's time I shell out for an air purifier.

She recommended Honeywell air purifiers. They certainly seem to get very good reviews online, and my mother is very happy with hers. The only kicker is....they don't seem to be available here in the UK!! I have been searching for the past week or so online, and I'm getting very frustrated indeed.    I want the one my mother has. It's got a permanent filter, so no added expense, and is reasonably quiet:

The only ones I can find here in the UK have either very poor reviews, or require frequent and very expensive filter changes. Very rarely do I bemoan the lack of certain products here in the UK, but this one has me tearing my hair out - why aren't Honeywell products available here?!  I am even considering ordering one in the States and paying through the nose to have it sent over - I am really getting that desperate!!

Can anyone recommend me a good air purifier available here in the UK, preferably one with permanent filters and reasonably quiet operation? I can probably pay up to £200.

Come on now, there sure seems to be alot of interest here in air purifiers (!), surely SOMEONE must have a suggestion!   

Ok, here's my suggestion. We didn't get a full air purifier system but I did get 3 "air cleaners" from Amazon. Probably not as strong as what you're looking but they do help. The problem I ran into with them is the replacement filters. Have no idea where to get them here, but they are easily/cheaply available at Target (of all places!). So on a visit home I bought a supply. Haven't used the air cleaners since, go figure. Anyway, long story short, try looking up air cleaners, air purifiers on AmazonUK and see what turns up for you, what looks like what you have in mind, and then try other keywords relating to those products to find anything else.

I have been looking into all of the purifiers you posted on amazon as well as about 20 other sites (it has become a slight obsession recently - I refuse to admit defeat!)...and my big concern was exactly what you mentioned - the filters. The ones that have permanent filters here get pretty poor reviews, and I honestly can't afford to be spending the kind of money some of them require for full filter changes - at least in ££.

I had thought about buying filters in the States, but was worried about availablility. The brand that is most popular here  - Bionaire - doesn't seem to be as widely available in the States. But it's good to hear you were able to find replacement filters at Target.

Maybe I will follow that line of inquiry instead of insisting on a permanent filter purifier. I'll see which units have filters that are available in the US, and then just stock up when I'm there. Thanks for your help.

Yes!  Damn their eyes - they supply all sorts of electrical components to the EU, but not their wonderful miraculously effective, yet surprisingly quiet, air purifiers.

Yeah, I've seen those. Those are more industrial/commercial units (like the ones here: http://www.heronhill.co.uk/products.cfm?catID=111&cfid=5634&cftoken=46961249&mode=productlist&rnd=0.311521696). I'm looking for a small tower or tabletop unit for home use like the ones on Amazon.

There ARE hundreds of purifiers available in the UK, but I don't want to buy anything blind... they seem to vary so wildly in quality and effectiveness - I want reviews and personal recommendations. And dammit, I want the one my doctor and my mum recommend!! I think my frustration is really coming down to just that 

The Bionaire ones seem to get ok reviews, so I think I'll just try to see what the filter availability is in the States so I can stock up.

I was looking at the bus timetables, maybe the easiest thing to do would be to stick them in a box on a bus to where you are at, if you wanted them. Lemme think about this, because my head is totally scattered with attempting to shift this house.

That's very very nice of you, but honestly, it sounds like you have far more important things to worry about just now. They are big and heavy, so it probably WOULD be a pain in the ass!

ooo..now, I haven't seen those! Thanks, racheeeee - those seem to be a step up from some of the other personal use purifiers I have seen. Very interesting!
