Hello, and first question

Hello,

My name is Laurie and I'm planning a move from Charleston, SC to Manchester, UK for the end of this year.  My husband is English, living in England, and we've been married for nearly four years -- we met and married whilst I was in school, and I wanted to finish my Masters and PhD in the US before going over.  It's good to find a place like this where I can meet some friendly expats and learn more about what to expect in my new home.

I have one pressing question, and wasn't sure which category to ask it in.  Moderator, please feel free to relocate this post as needed.

I am looking for a shipping company to use for my move.  I'm taking very little, only about 200 lbs. worth of clothes and personal effects, but I want to send it ahead of my personal departure.  Can anyone recommend a good, economical carrier?

I'm using Robinson's, which is based in the UK, but I know has affiliates everywhere in the world.  I got quotes from about three companies, and their reviews and rates were the best.  They're coming tomorrow, so I can let you know how it goes!

There's LOADS of info here, and lots of stories of personal experience.  So have a look around and ask more questions once you've had a look through!

UPakWeShip.com is awesome!  I am sending about 40 cubic feet for $400.  Super cheap and others say their service is awesome too!

If you're only sending 200 lbs of stuff, it's worth looking into FedEx and UPS. My husband and I shipped 400 lbs via UPS for about $3/lb (ten months ago), and everything was here within less than two weeks.
