Just sent it, along with an icing recipe.

If anyone else wants it let me know.  I plan on making them for the cookie exchange :)

The last time I was at Ikea, I noticed they had gingerbread in a tube that you could slice and bake. Has anyone tried this? I am feeling lazy at the moment.  ;D

Anyone know where I can get molasses (actually, dark molasses)?

I went to ASDA today and they didn't have it :(

Wikipedia has some suggestions for alternatives if you can't find what you want.

Is treacle the same thing?  The Wiki article seems to say so.

I just don't want to spend a lot of time making cookies that don't turn out right!

Anyone sucessfully use treacle for gingerbread men?

My gingerbread men recipe uses golden syrup (which is what I've always used when making them), although many recipes use dark/black treacle instead - including Delia Smith.

I'd actually never heard of molasses was until I was about 20... and I've been making gingerbread men since I was a kid - I always thought it was some kind of mud or sewage (something to do with the molasses swamp in Candyland, lol)!

Molasses you can get at asian grocers, I just bought some recently, and made gingersnaps with it. It's from Lebanon.

Yep - black treacle & molasses look & taste exactly the same & are the same consistency, etc.

See, I didn't know that about black treacle, and purposefully looked for molasses.

Billington's makes a molasses dark sugar as well which can be subbed for some of the sugar in your recipe and gives a really nice taste to baked goods.  I've seen it at my local Tesco and Sainsbury's. http://www.billingtons.co.uk/

Gingerbread are my staple each Christmas, I make it an art and almost considered opening a business based on them, but that got a bit too much, in any case, I frost my gingerbread men the day after I bake them, decorate them then put them in rubbermaid or airtight containers. They taste the best a few days later after the cookie has absorbed the moisture from the sugary frosting. Let's just say it's not a dieter's delight when I make gingerbread men. you've had a ton of recipes, so I just wanted to share a way to make them a little different. They are the fav of my family, but Christmas cookies are not a big deal here and every brit looks at me funny when I mention baking cookies for christmas, so I have lost a little of my enthusiasm for them. I will still be baking for the exchange though! Probably starting the dough this week and baking/frosting the cookies next week! I LOVE this time of year :)
