Sky+ box question
« on: September 03, 2007, 12:30:45 PM »
I recorded something yesterday and went to play it back today.  It's there, says recorded, however it will not play back.  This has happend before and I give up and delete it.  I'd like to know if there is a way to fix it though.  We have an HD box if that makes a difference?

PS I restarted it and tried to google the answer, nothing.

does it ask you for a code to play it?
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

No, nothing come up at all. It goes to the description and then nothing happens when I press play.

(I set the code for ours, so I know that :D)

That happened to me once. I was a bit annoyed, but just gave up and deleted the tv programme! (Maybe it makes you feel a bit better to know it has happened to someone else, although if someone comes up with a solution, that would be great!)

Does Sky have a number you can call for technical advice? They should.

That has happened to me loads of times too. Or it says its recorded and only records a few minutes. Or records a different show. Stupid Sky! (stupid me for not following it up but hey, its only tv)  :-X
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

That would be to easy Suzanne :P

I was going to do that since my husband didn't know the answer either, but in case I don't understand exactly what to do I want him to ring them.  (I probably would, but I guess I don't want to embarrass myself, silly I know)

Stacey, shame shouldn't come into the picture. Call them. Or would you rather have your TV not working? I'm sure they get questions such as yours all the time.

I've had that happen maybe twice over the 4 years I've had Sky+. I just assumed it was some minor glitch - it is a computer after all, and those get weird errors all the time. But, yeah, I'd call them too. I'm sure they're used to answering questions like that!  :)

The majority of these domestic products have so many bugs in the software that it's a wonder they work at all half the time.   :(

If there's a manufacturer's reset sequence in the instruction manual, try following that to get the unit back into "factory fresh" state.  It will mean losing everything and reprogramming from scratch, of course.

If you try to call for information, make sure you note down the model number and the precise software revision that you have.   There might be a software patch to overcome the most common problems.

Edit for typo.

Thank you Paul.

I agree, it is a wonder they work at all.  PITA!

We did a reset. (Didn't lose anything) But that didn't help.  I just deleted in the end.  I'm sure it will be on again.  But I will ring them if it happens again.

Thank you all!

There can be different levels of "reset."   If you didn't lose any settings, then it couldn't have been the full reset right back to default configuration.

Hi all,

Just in case anyone comes across this thread in the future, there's a good troubleshooting forum for Sky at www.skyuser.co.uk.

good luck,
Carl
