Boston MA to maybe Edinburgh
« on: March 21, 2004, 10:30:56 AM »
Hi!  I'm Chris, a single, 53 year old woman from Boston, Mass.  I'm applying for an HSMP visa as soon as I get my taxes done and plan to emigrate to north-east England or south-east Scotland.  My sister met a Geordie on line a few years ago, moved to Newcastle, and married him.  She has 3 married step-sons and 7 grandchildren.  I miss everyone too much to keep up with this commuting nonsense--9 trips in 2 and a half years!  Well, I got over my fear of flying! :o

I will be accompanied by my Feline-American companion, Spucky.  We have complied with every detail of the PETS program.  We are just waiting for "the day," which will be near the end of May.  Do I think it's ironic that he gets to emigrate before I do?  You bet!

I started to dejunk my house a while ago.  I'm ready for the second run-through after reading all of the sage advice here.  Now I don't feel extravagant for shipping the things that I don't necessarily need, but I want.  They will help me feel that my new home is really my home.  Kind of like peeing in the corners of the rooms to mark my territory.

When I get over there, I'll be looking for a middle to senior level management position in a large university.  I'll be letting everyone know about the HSMP visa, the PETS program, and the job and house hunts.  Until then, I'll be reading and posting. ;D
When I find a funnier sig than twistedncynical's, it will be here.

Hiya Chris and welcome to UKY :)LOL,I was like you scared to death to fly.My first plane ride ever was to the UK the first time ::)Iam still nervous ,but not as bad as before.

We have a few Geordie girls here as well.I will be living very close to Newcastle(Stockton On Tees),when we move over in a couple of months. My husband is a Newcastle football fan  ;D Thats funny about your Spucky going over before you.One of our doggies is set to go at the end of May as well.

Good luck on your job hunt, and you have found a wonderful community here.

Rhia

Hi, Rhia!  Thanks for the welcome.  I feel very comfortable here.  Everyone has been so helpful.

Are you going over with your doggie?  Spucky and I are flying to London on May 24, then we are taking the train to Berwick-upon-Tweed.  Spucky will be staying with my sister and BIL until get over there and settled.

I was amazed that Spucky can take the train with no added fare as long as he doesn't need a seat.  The UK is sooo civilized.

Does your husband watch the footy on Sky?  The games are taped and shown later.  If I have to go out before the game is over, I call my BIL and ask him who won.

Newcastle and Durham are two of the cities I'm considering.  Where I live depends on where I find a job.  We could be neighbors!  Take care,  Chris

Your very welcome Chris, and glad you feel comfortable here :)

Yes hopefully Baby(thats one of our dog's name) will be able to fly on the same flight as us.Our other dog Jade is having her blood tested again today. The first time she didnt pass. They waited too long the first time between getting jabed and blood drawn;and the vet said that it might be because dobbies immune system is a bit different. We will know soon.Either she would fly over in September or have to be in quarantine there for six months.

LOL,yeppers it seems sometimes the UK can be a bit more pet friendly.

The games are played here on the Fox sports center and  its through Sky.

We could be neighbors along with a couple of other cool ladies here  ;D

Hi, Kismet!

Thanks for saying hi.  You must be sooooo busy with moving and wedding plans.  Best of luck with your move and the wedding, too.

I've noticed a number of Bostonians on the forum.  Last one out, turn off the lights!   Chris
