I-130 question
« on: September 28, 2007, 10:36:21 PM »
We completed I-130 form back in July.  We just got this in the mail.

Please provide a sworn affidavit explaining how and when you met and the background leading to your marriage.

Please provide 3 affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of your relationship with your husband.

Is this standard procedure?

I have never heard of that kind of request. (We have completed the I-130 and weren't ask for an affidavit).

How long have you been married?

Did you download the I-130 from the US Embassy website or from the USCIS website?

Apparently the download from the former isn't an up-to-date version, if downloaded from the latter then you are asked to verify your relationship by providing proof. I don't think it matters how long you have been married for.

Go to uscis.gov and click on the 'immigration forms' tab at the top of the page then scroll down to 'I-130'. There you will find the instructions in .pdf form to download.

My husband does not remember where he downloaded the form.

The letter we got back says- I-130 SPECIAL. Where do we go to get these affidavits sworn?  Is it costly? Our application will be suspended in 12 wks if we do not.  We need to get three friends to come with us to get this all sworn.  What a pain!

Thanks,

Sheri

This is apparently a New Thing; there's lots of people on diveintoamerica.com who got the same letter and I'm expecting one now as well.  It annoys me that while the checklist says DO NOT SEND ANY EXTRA INFORMATION, the Embassy is now contradicting themselves.

Ah well.
