Working Tax Credit
« on: October 02, 2007, 07:28:07 AM »
Hey all,
Just wondered if anyone has any experience with working tax and child tax credits.  The system seems alittle antique!  I am originally British so we are entitled to help with childcare for our two toddlers.  I applied when we first got jobs in April, even though I wrote them a letter explaining that we moved over in February and we started work in April, they gave us back dated money for when we weren't in the country  ??? so after several calls I got it straightened out and they are deducting the money I received from weekly payments.

They awarded me our amount of credit based on zero income as I had been told by them that as my earnings in 06 weren't in £ that I should put zero, so obviously my tax award is too much, I called and told them my current income and they put the new figures in and resent the award, but I have just reread the award and it says that they figured my income on nearly zero and they would use the figures I gave them next April???  I am afraid this will mean next year I will owe them alot back or they will deduct against my payments and my childcare costs will be outrageous..  What an awful system...  Anyone else had any experiences with them??

My experiences have been along the lines of yours.  Seems like every year they stop my payments as they say I have been overpaid. I have called them with every single stinking change in our financial status, when DS turned 1 (so they would be sure to reduce our payments) and they manage to screw it up each time.

I can totally commiserate with you!

See, this is exactly why we've put off applying for tax credits. What happens if you put the new information to them in writing? Then they've got no excuse.

Oh, I'm sure they would find one!!!  ;D

They would probably deny receiving it, just like saying we didn't call with our new info.

Cheeky buggers.

This is the reason that DH refuses to even apply for our daughter. He says they never get it right.

OK well now I know. If we do apply I'll be sending everything by recorded delivery!

I sent them a letter and when I asked why it wasn't with my application, they said only the applications get scanned on, so they just threw it!  Anyway guess I'll call and see what is going on....  Keep your fingers crossed!
