What documentation is needed to obtain rental housing
« on: October 28, 2007, 12:35:11 AM »
Okay, we're not moving till August and I've tried to get a credit report from Experian, but I don't live there yet so it's not possible.  I don't want to use my US credit report becuase DH was laid off about 6 years ago after 9/11 and had to file bankruptcy.

We do have good rental and home ownership records here in the US.

What do most landlords require for renting?

Also, I got a whole slew of houses off of this websites rental suggestions - obviously opening now and not later, but my question is, are they going to be impossible to get into or easy.

Will my husband's company have to vouch for us?

Thanks, Ginny

i found that a letter from my employer stating my salary, that it was a permanant position, helped.

i had to put down 1 1/2 months salary but that was standard.

they will do a credit check on you, but if you've never lived in the UK- nothing will show up.

the biggest problem i had was the catch-22 that you can't open a bank account unti you have proof of address, and i couldn't get a place to live until i had somewhere to transfer my USD into £.  I'm with Bank of America in the US- and they have a relationship with Barclays in the UK- so that if you withdraw £ in the UK using your BoA debit- they don't charge you a fee.  I just took out the maximum amt daily for a few days- until I had enough for the deposit- and paid in cash.  only way i could figure it out.

where will you be moving?

If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
