Congratulations Carol!

Where are you moving from and what part of Glasgow are you looking? Flat or House?

We are moving to Glasgow as well and curious as to which areas are better than not. We're still 6 months out, but will be visiting in February to get a feeling of the areas. Do you have a realtor you could recommend?

Jackie

Just an update for anyone interested...but WE SOLD OUR FLAT!  In the end we got 2 offers and we accepted the highest one (surprise surprise)...so the stress of selling is over, now on to the stress of moving and buying.

Glasgow here we come!  ;D ;D ;D
I made it!!

Hi Jackie

Good luck with your move, you're going to love Glasgow!

So, we're looking all over Glasgow - we're moving from a one bedroom flat in (almost) the centre of Edinburgh to a 2 or 3 bed semi or detached house (time to grow up and become an adult!)

I'm not too familiar with Glasgow (other than the city centre and the area where I work) so i've been asking people that i work beside which areas they would recommend and so far we're getting all sorts of conflicting views of which is 'good' and 'bad'.  But, there are some which are consistently mentioned

Good:
Bearsden, Milngavie, Clarkston, Jordanhill, Shawlands, Bothwell, Giffnock, Hillhead, Newlands, Bishopbriggs, Kirklea

Bad: (these are other peoples opinions, no offence intended to anyone from these areas)
Nitshill, Pollock, Priesthill, Darnley

But Glasgow is so vast and diverse, I think you'll find good and bad in every area.  We're off the opinion that once we see the house and area that we like then that's what we'll go for without worrying about other peoples opinions.  It's good that you're coming in February to see for yourself.

Realtors (I'm the british half so we normally call them Estate Agents).  Not too sure, currently we're using a firm based in Edinburgh who don't have any branches in Glasgow but there's a firm in Glasgow called Pacitti Jones who seem to have branches all over the city...loads of the properties we're looking at are being handled by them.  We did pop into one of their offices and they took details of what we were looking for and added us to a mailing list, so they seemed quite helpful, but that's the only interaction we've had so I can't really recommend them or otherwise?

If you use a site called www.gspc.co.uk - this is the listing for all/most property to buy or rent in glasgow and also has details of Estate Agents.  That might be a good starting point.

Good luck again...i'm so happy to have sold and can finally plan a move to the west and stop getting on that d*mn train every morning.
