Praise Be! Marlespo...
« on: October 08, 2002, 07:07:42 AM »
I was just reading the Feedback section of the Online Telegraph, when all of a sudden I realized I recognized the name of the letter writer!  Congrats on having yours published.  I often wonder if there's any point in writing to papers.  Now I know they are read and even published.

Hey wait a minute I didn't even know it got published! Here I went and looked in the regular newspaper and got sad that I didn't get in! :) .... Here was the letter I wrote: (and all apologies if this offends, I'm not starting debate here... and, after all, I didn't bring it up!  [smiley=laugh3.gif]

And Jana, how really cool that you recognised me! :D I'm chuffed.

To William Hague... (re: He Means What He Says,
October 6) thank you. As an American living in
England, it is refreshing to see an occasional article
that conveys what I (and many others) have known all
along, that George Bush does, in fact, have a brain.
One that he uses, even. Having been born and raised in
the same very small Widwestern American town as former
Vice President Dan Quayle, I am all too familiar with
the image of a bumbling ape-like figure having
replaced the visage of one of my leaders. And while I
understand that perpetuating the image of Dubya's
war-mongering, sub-human intelligence serves a purpose
(political cartoonists, after all, need jobs as well),
I appreciate seeing the rare voice standing up for the
man who is, like so many other American Leaders,
damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

Sincerely,
Sara Kathleen

I then got an email from someone in my inbox as follows:
Dear Sara:

How heartening to read your letter in The Daily Telegraph's feedback column today. I'm not an American, but the same fatuous miss-representation of American leaders and their world-leading role happens here in Australia as it does in Britain, and as a citizen of both countries, it irritates the hell out of me. As we say in these parts, good on you.

AHA!  The real reason that immigration tryed to stop Sara Smith from entering the country.  Not because she was going to get a job or stay too long, but because she showed potential to become a crazed letter writer! :)  Well Done Marlespo! ;)
